Today’s lesson:

and don’t leave things in the fridge.

Macross Frontier 999

So for some reason they aired Galaxy Express 999 instead of episode 16 this week. Weird.

Xam’d Lost Memories 2

The second episode of Xam’d turns up the action and intensity, keeping me hooked from beginning to end. Plus the visuals are gorgeous.

Hiro Mashima Panel

I’ve been at Comic Con for the last few days and the highlight for me was not Tite Kubo, who was the big anime/manga related guest this year, but instead being able to meet Hiro Mashima.

Xam’d Lost Memories 1

The first episode of Xam’d sets up the basic premise of the show: against the backdrop of a war between the Northern and Southern Governments a high school boy, Akiyuki, is having a normal day until a strange girl bestows a power on him that changes his body into some kind of creature.

It sounds like pretty average anime fare and yet the first episode does just about everything right.

Baccano Licensed!

is it just me or is Funimation becoming the company to keep an eye on? What with first saving One Piece from 4kids and recently picking up a number of Geneon and ADV titles and now they’ve announced that they licensed Baccano!.

There’s only one problem – who can possible voice Gustave St. Germain like Norio Wakamoto? Is there anyone else who can roll the r’s, stretch out the syllables and pronounce Carol in such a spine-tingling way? Probably not, but I’m still holding out hope for the impossible: a Bebop level dub.

To see the first episode of Baccano go here and type in “Flying Pussyfoot”.

I should probably mention for anyone who hasn’t seen it that because Baccano is told from a variety of different perspectives and is chronologically out of order, jumping back and forth between the years 1930-1932, it makes much more sense to watch the first few episodes in one sitting. Especially since much of the first episode is used for exposition and the real meat of the story doesn’t being until episode 2. But the first episode is still a good indicator for the feel of the show and almost every main character shows up, and not just in the opening.

Artists Alley and Fanart

I’m probably the only person in the world who can attend Comic Con for 6 years in a row and never, ever take a good look at Artists’ Alley. In my defense by the time a person makes it that far down the hall odds are they’ve become a gibbering idiot. If you’ve ever been to a large convention maybe you know what I’m talking about… 15 minutes in the main hall and a fully functioning human becomes a brainless organism that can only react to bright lights and the mention of the word “swag”. It’s sort of the same experience you get after marathoning Mai Otome.

Baccano stickers

But you shouldn’t make the same mistake I did. I discovered at Anime Expo that Artists’ Alley is a great place to buy fanart and, here’s the best part, commission artists. I had this One Piece pen drawing done:

Laugh at Golgo 13 At Your Own Risk

Fact: No matter what situation you put him in it is impossible to make Golgo 13 unmanly. But that’s not for lack of trying.

Summer 2008 Anime – What I’m Watching

Since the new anime season is already well on it’s way and you can find other resources that list every show airing, this post is only about the shows I am watching.
