So if you haven’t heard already, there’s a new group blog called Oi Hayaku! which is being touted as a force that’s going to revolutionize the blogging world through the power of Dios hard work and guts. Now as evidenced by how little effort I put into promoting my own blog I’m hardly one to hype things* but I really think it’s worth adding Oi Hayaku to your RSS reader because
1) there’s a really interesting mix of writers
2) it’s different than most group blogs in that the content is quite varied with absolutely no episodic summaries and
3) I’m writing for them.
That last point’s the real clincher, I know.
I was originally going to write about something nice for my first post, like Kappa no Coo to Natsuyasumi, but then Golgo 13 came to me in a dream and, well, he didn’t actually say anything because anybody who has read the manga knows that his favorite phrase is “…” but he looked at me with that stone-cold face and I knew I had to write about Golgo 13: The Professional. So I did and now you can read it and find out why I’m crazy about this movie.

And someday I’m going to have to use my own blog to write about the Golgo 13 manga because it’s so great. Hell, there’s even a volume where he’s involved in Princess Diana’s death not to mention that story about fake Pope John Paul II. Or how about the time when he’s hired during the 2000 elections to shoot the ballots that would’ve made Al Gore president. Remember that whole recount fiasco? Yeah, now you know the real story.
* this should read: things other than Golgo 13
What? Wow. I didn’t Duke was behind everything XD
Holy cow I didn’t know they’d tied in all kinds of real world events to Golgo, that just makes him that much more awesome. Did they do that back in the 60s-70s, or is that a newer thing?
LOLs, so true, but I’ll refrain from asking you what kind of dream Togo came to you in (we all know his way with the ladies, uh……)
At any rate, we’re glad to have you on board — and your Golgo movie post intrigued me enough to make me want to see it. Golgocopter ftw!
Daryl of Anime World Order says that Golgo 13 is absolutely not misanthropic– it’s merely anti-everyone-who-isn’t-Golgo-13. Me, I’m waiting for the comic in which Golgo is revealed as the agent behind the lead-tainted toys and melamine chocolate from China, as well as instigator of North Korea’s firing of a dummy nuclear missile over Japan in order to sow social discord there and cause a domino action that leads towards an eventual coup de’tat by the Self Defense Forces, opposed only by a few plucky sorts in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Oh wait wrong anime movie.
This group blog looks intriguing. Nice design, very easy on the eyes. Love the little byline profiles for each writer. Interesting subjects. One thing though: ya’ll need a copy editor to keep consistent style– title for TV shows, movies, comics, etc. they’re italicized, every time. Oi vey.
“but he looked at me with that stone-cold face and I knew I had to write about Golgo 13: The Professional.”
its a sign!!!
Outo-san: Not all of the stories involve real events but many do which as far as I know is nothing new. Though I’ve only had a chance to read the stories picked by Viz to be published.
And just what are you insinuating? My love for Golgo is purely intellectual. I’m only interested in his… uh… stimulating conversation and his… gun.
Mark: Hah, I remember reading that in Daryl’s Otaku USA article. I like that explanation even though it’s hard to deny that there’s rarely if ever a woman in Golgo 13 who actually does something worth mentioning. Not that I’m at all bothered by it. Personally I’m waiting for the story where we find out that Golgo caused global warming by shooting a hole in the ozone layer.
Thanks for the comment on the blog. You make a good point about having a consistent style.
