Oi Hayaku!, now with manly eyebrows

So if you haven’t heard already, there’s a new group blog called Oi Hayaku! which is being touted as a force that’s going to revolutionize the blogging world through the power of Dios hard work and guts. Now as evidenced by how little effort I put into promoting my own blog I’m hardly one to hype things* but I really think it’s worth adding Oi Hayaku to your RSS reader because

1) there’s a really interesting mix of writers

2) it’s different than most group blogs in that the content is quite varied with absolutely no episodic summaries and

3) I’m writing for them.

That last point’s the real clincher, I know.

I was originally going to write about something nice for my first post, like Kappa no Coo to Natsuyasumi, but then Golgo 13 came to me in a dream and, well, he didn’t actually say anything because anybody who has read the manga knows that his favorite phrase is “…” but he looked at me with that stone-cold face and I knew I had to write about Golgo 13: The Professional. So I did and now you can read it and find out why I’m crazy about this movie.

And someday I’m going to have to use my own blog to write about the Golgo 13 manga because it’s so great. Hell, there’s even a volume where he’s involved in Princess Diana’s death not to mention that story about fake Pope John Paul II. Or how about the time when he’s hired during the 2000 elections to shoot the ballots that would’ve made Al Gore president. Remember that whole recount fiasco? Yeah, now you know the real story.

* this should read: things other than Golgo 13

Tytania Trailer Out

Well, sort of. We should be getting a real release soon but until then this was filmed at Chara Hobby.

There’s not much point in judging a show based on such a short preview but I am slightly disappointed with how the character designs and art came out. I was hoping for something a little less… shiny. I’m not a big fan of hair halos which Kyoto Anime, for instance, is very fond of.

Otherwise it looks pretty much as I expected, though while I knew there were going to be pretty men I didn’t realize there would be so many frilly suits. This can only work to Tytania’s benefit for literature such as The Count of Monte Cristo and The Scarlet Pimpernel has taught me that the most devious plans are always hatched by men in too tight britches and women in corsets.

And of course it is only the manliest of men who dare to wear curls in public.

Baccano Licensed!

is it just me or is Funimation becoming the company to keep an eye on? What with first saving One Piece from 4kids and recently picking up a number of Geneon and ADV titles and now they’ve announced that they licensed Baccano!.

There’s only one problem – who can possible voice Gustave St. Germain like Norio Wakamoto? Is there anyone else who can roll the r’s, stretch out the syllables and pronounce Carol in such a spine-tingling way? Probably not, but I’m still holding out hope for the impossible: a Bebop level dub.

To see the first episode of Baccano go here and type in “Flying Pussyfoot”.

I should probably mention for anyone who hasn’t seen it that because Baccano is told from a variety of different perspectives and is chronologically out of order, jumping back and forth between the years 1930-1932, it makes much more sense to watch the first few episodes in one sitting. Especially since much of the first episode is used for exposition and the real meat of the story doesn’t being until episode 2. But the first episode is still a good indicator for the feel of the show and almost every main character shows up, and not just in the opening.
